Little Shop of Horrors, the dark comedy about a man-eating plant, has been announced as the spring musical for 2021. Although this year will look a little different than previous years, the cast and crew are still very excited. “I think that it will turn out really good and end up being a really great show,” said  Emma Zanettie (sophomore), who plays Crystal. Jadyn Fernandez (junior), who plays Chiffon, thinks the same. “It will be very different than the past years but nonetheless I’m super excited!”

With a show like Little Shop of Horrors, there are many recognizable moments to audience members. The cast have their favorite scenes as well, with Kellie Webb’s (senior) being the finale, “It’s so fun and ties the musical together amazingly.” Xeñia Crosby (senior), who plays Audrey, has a more specific scene as her favorite, “I love every moment of it but I’d definitely have to say the Suddenly Seymour scene in Act 2! It’s such a huge moment for both Seymour and Audrey in their character arcs, and it’s such a powerful song to sing.”

The threat of COVID-19 shutting down their production is nothing new to the theatre department. Their musical last year, Matilda, was derailed by the sudden shutdown of the school district. For Savannah Cheney (junior), just the act of being able to put on the musical is a win. “I didn’t care at all what role I got, I just wanted to participate!” The production is trying to keep everyone in the show safe so that they can continue to put on the best musical possible.
